Palazzo Spinelli di Laurino, costruito nel 1767 dall’unione di due edifici cinquecenteschi, fu commissionato da Troiano Spinelli, che eleborò sia il progetto della ristrutturazione sia il programma decorativo. Egli ebbe rapporti sia con Ferdinando Fuga che si occupò della supervisione tecnica del progetto, sia con Ferdinando Sanfelice, a giudicare dalla scala a doppia rampa che conduce agli appartamenti. Il palazzo presenta soluzioni architettoniche originali come il cortile circolare e lo scalone. Nell’atrio di ingresso, è introdotto il motivo dell’ellisse che conduce al cortile circolare, ornato di stucchi e statue in terracotta.
Palazzo Spinelli di Laurino è una location molto legata a Mastroianni, il quale ritorna con tre differenti film. In Maccherroni il palazzo fa da abitazione del protagonista, mentre in Giallo Napoletano e La Pelle, Mastroianni assiste a due eventi sorprendenti.
A coronamento della parete sono poste dodici statue allegoriche in terracotta, la statua dell’Immacolata sovrasta l’orologio e due busti di imperatori romani completano la decorazione del cortile. Nel secondo atrio, si trova la scala a doppia rampa. In questo emiciclo si trovano nove nicchie con epigrafi, che accolgono i busti delle dame della famiglia. Al piano nobile, sono visibili gli affreschi di Jacopo Cestaro che raffigurano la Pietà cristiana e l’Erudizione, due virtù scelte dallo stesso Spinelli come riferimento a se stesso. Nella cappella privata, attigua al cortile, si trova la volta affrescata da Antonio Sarnelli, sei loggete con balaustre marmoree e una cantoria in legno intagliata e dorata. Sulla cantoria sono presenti gli stemmi delle famiglie committenti della ristrutturazione settecentesca.
